Hi, I'm Mackenzie, but my friends have called me Maco (pronounced ['mæk.oʊ], not ['meɪ.koʊ]) since I was 10.
I recently finished a Computer Science degree at George Washington University and started a new job in Maryland.
I do computer security stuff for a living, but outside of work I've been spending some time on making 16th century Florentine gamurras for the Society for Creative Anachronism. Pennsic XL (2011) was my first Pennsic.
I used to be interested in working on Free Software. In particular, I'm a developer on Ubuntu (for now), though I use Kubuntu, and I started a project called Gally to create a program and library of media for learning sign languages on Linux.
I can generally be found at eastern US computery events, such as Ohio LinuxFest, Southeast LinuxFest, ShmooCon, and Hackers On Planet Earth (HOPE).
I'm an ovo-vegetarian (though, the ovo part is pretty rare—had eggs 10 times in 2009). I am not a fan of salads, particularly of the "oh look lots of iceberg lettuce and some shredded carrots a couple flecks of radish and add some dressing" variety. I mostly prefer my food cooked, though avocados are perfect with nothing more than a spoon. If you're confused by what a vegetarian who doesn't like salads eats, the answer is: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indian, Ethiopian….
I'm into languages. I studied Spanish for 10 years, Japanese for four, and Russian for one, but I'm pretty out of practice with them. For the last four years, I've made frequent use of American Sign Language and can converse pretty well in it.
I'm an attender at Friends Meeting of Washington, a Quaker Meeting.
I'm not a member of either major US political party and do not believe that a two-party system is the answer. I am a fan of preferential voting such as single-transfer voting.
